On 9 October, we found two little kittens outside in Korçë. They felt cold to us and kept meowing. We couldn't see their mother.
We brought them indoors, bought kitten food and kept them warm. Both ate on their own. Later, they curled up and rested together. Seeing them settle down was the beginning of something we hadn't planned.
We called it Happy Cats, Happy Life.
A safe next step
That first night was a temporary stop. Our rental has a no-pets rule because previous guests had serious allergic reactions, and we respect that. A separate room at our grandparents' home is available as a possible temporary care space. It needs to be prepared, with the dogs kept completely out and daily care arranged, before the kittens move in.
A veterinary assessment is another next step. The kittens' age, health and care needs still need a vet's advice. The observations above are from the evening of 9 October; we'll post a fresh update when we have one.
A place to begin
Alongside their care, we're working towards a rescue cat café in Korçë. We want a suitable place for cats to be cared for, and for people to spend a quiet moment with them over coffee.
We're at the beginning. There are premises to find, permissions to confirm and real costs to work through. We'll share the small steps, the decisions and the days when things take a little longer.
Thank you for being here at the start.
Thank you for being part of our beginning.
